NaPoWriMo 30/30 - Untitled

"From what realm of light
were we shadows who darken the earth
spawned?" ~Henry Miller

Less Freud, more Jung
More Joni stardust
less Inferno Dante

or is that optimistic

The science of my desire
is for us to be
time traveling star stuff
some of us
we are

But too well
I know
you know

there are those who shadow
bait switch the light
bring the dark
hook eye its needle
stitch miserable histories
we legacy in DNA

to win this argument
it’s always a good idea
to bring up
Hitler

see

yet somehow
that remains a burnt
fragment
of a chapter
of a story
not yet told

you are golden
I am silver
sun
moon
we thread down
to molten core
this I know
and have seen

but I can’t speak
for the rest
these lifetimes
even strung together
like pearls
too short in strands
to ring round
the truth

I am a blank book
Inscribed to you. Turn my leaves.

Write in my pages.

NaPoWriMo 27/30 - Grass

GRASS

I.

As soon as I am close
to the grass
I am transported
1000 days
thousands of miles

to The Heath.

Soft green grass
bright sun
moist and fertile
ground

you and I
innocent
before all the everything that happened

you and I
innocent
after all the everything that happened

that’s the thing
about you and I
as a together

II.

I love nothing more
than love
we seem to share a definition

sometimes
I look at you
feeling your good
wondering
how you have been so
clipped and confined

sometimes probably
you look at me, too
wondering

we are each other’s easy
mired deep
in our own hards

III.

the grass
begins spiking me
tough and angled
survivor grass
soil cracked and dry
sun brutally insistent
breeze far above
human reach

there is no kindness here
but oh so much determination
everything is a road
nothing is a place to be.

NaPoWriMo 26/30 - Weapon of Choice

WEAPON OF CHOICE

We didn’t have much training.
Finn showed us what he could,
when he could.  We didn’t have
anything to train with.

Weapons were relics.
Besides – exactly what weapon
do you use on a drone?

Tim liked fire. Said it was quick,
effective. He could stay low to
the ground, under cover, then
take a spot as a bystander, get
moved along with the crowd.

Charlie wanted a pistol.
Good luck with that.

Me, I wanted a cross-bow.
Precise. Deathly.
Never close enough for them to
fight back. Just wait for that
one
clean
shot.

Quote of the Week - Murger

"The first duty of wine is to be red. Don't talk to me of your white wines."

Happy Monday!

Here's one of my fave recipes to make and eat - goes fantastically with red wine - olive and grape compote. Yum.

NaPoWriMo 25/30 - How I Live Now = Day 26 Prompt

How I Live Now

When you find them
the mystical creatures
who believe in magic
because they make it real
believe in love
because what else
believe in you because love
make you love because safe
and because why not

you  have found it
that elusive home
the one you were
already supposedly born into yet
unceremoniously ejected from

to find this one
the here now
the stay

When you are pulled from it
by the paternalistic knife blade
of the long con that called itself home
which you now know to be
impostor
like healthy tooth from root
pulled
extracted
as if rescue mission
like Israelis
saving Ethiopian Jews only
to bring them home
where they will make up the new
lowest caste forever

When this happens
you are dead
but still living
when this happens you survive
in spite of survival
you lock memories
in a tank guarded  by
angry gun-toting extremists
hold just one note
a tiny timbre
of what was
and what will be
hold it close
locket it in heart
close around it
like grenade

and wait

When all you can do is wait
you wait
and then wait
and then wait
as long as it takes
carefully guarding
the seed called home
till you can return it
to fertile soil

I don't really know if this is in response to yesterday's prompt.  It is definitely in response to just having read How I Live Now.

So close to the end of NaPoWriMo and National Poetry Month!   I've put a PDF version of 5 here --- you can download it FREE (the read option doesn't seem to work so well).
