of Homeless in Homeland at the Fringe
on Fringe Festival
London, UK (June 3, 2013) - Down Home and Saria Idana are thrilled to announce
that Homeless in Homeland will have one
special performance opening night of Upstairs at the Southern Cross’ Fringe on
Fringe Festival, Friday, June 28th.
This special 60-minute
performance will take place at 9pm. Tickets are £10. In partnership with London
Theatre Workshop, Upstairs at the Southern Cross is presenting this summer
festival of Fringe shows. Located in
Parsons Green, at 65 New King's Road, London, SW6, Upstairs at the Southern
Cross is an intimate 50-seat venue.
At Brighton Fringe, Homeless in Homeland received 4 stars
from Fringe Review, which called the show, “…a stunning piece of theatre.” It was
a Top 30 Pick by Fringe Review, as well as Hot Ticket, and was featured on
Broadwayworld. The 2012 recipient of the
Outstanding Performance Award at the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival, Homeless in Homeland was called, “…a
dramatic tour-de-force...not to be missed,” by the Hollywood Progressive.
Combining poetry, dance, and
character monologue, Idana conveys a young Jewish-American woman’s struggle to
understand her identity and the meaning of home through the lens of the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Idana’s portrayal of 17 vibrant, diverse
Americans, Palestinians, and Israelis, uncovers a new Middle East of grief,
daily struggle, and humour, in a moving and enlightening show expertly directed
and choreographed by Shyamala Moorty, with sound design and music by Troy Alcendor,
and lighting design by Dan Kwong.
Saria Idana is an acclaimed
writer, actor and music artist committed to the intersection of art and
activism through the creation of new culture. Idana is a passionate Arts Educator who teaches
poetry, dance, theatre and music at after-school programs, colleges and
detention centers.
Established in 2006 by
poet/performer E. Amato, Down Home offers
unique, intimate experiences for audiences and artists. Its shows have received
5 stars at the Festival Fringe in Edinburgh in 2007 and 2008, and 4 stars at
Brighton Fringe in 2013. From Santa Monica to the UK, its stages have featured
artists including Kal Lavelle, Inua Ellams, Ed Sheeran, Tshaka Campbell, Kevin

Los Angeles, CA (May 20, 2013) - Down Home and Saria Idana are thrilled to announce
that Homeless in Homeland will have
its UK/International premiere at Brighton Fringe, in Brighton, UK with 3 shows
May 27th, 28th, and 29th, 2013.
Performances will take place
at 7:30pm at The Warren. Tickets are £10/8.50. Running time is 70 minutes. The
Warren is a flexible pop-up theatre that seats 100, slap-bang in the centre of
town, in Russell Place. The show is suitable for ages 15+ and seeks to engage
youth audiences in the dialogue surrounding the issues brought forward.

workshop following at 5:15pm.

Homeless in Homeland had its workshop premiere at Art Share LA in 2010. Since then, Idana
has performed versions of the show across the US at venues and festivals
including the Nuyorican Poets Café, Hampshire College, and the LA Women’s
Theatre Festival, where it was awarded for Outstanding Performance in 2012. The
current 70-minute version of the show has been performed at La Peña Cultural
Center in Berkeley and The Marsh in San Francisco.

There is a fundraising campaign on Fractured Atlas to help raise the $6000 in production funds needed to bring this show to life in Brighton.
